Burn time and fuel capacity

Choosing between two models comes down to three figures: fuel capacity, burn time and heat output. This guide explains what each one covers, how they are spread across the range, and what they cannot tell you.
In this guide
What the three figures are
Fuel capacity is the burner volume in millilitres. Burn time is how many hours a full tank lasts. Heat output is the watt figure for the flame. All three appear on the product page wherever they are stated.
Read the figures one at a time: a bigger tank does not automatically mean a longer burn time, and the watt figure does not mean a product can heat a room.
How burn time is distributed
Most models sit between two and five hours, while a few last considerably longer. Use the table to see where your favourite sits compared with the rest.
| Burn time | Products |
|---|---|
| 4-5 hours | 22 |
| 2-3 hours | 18 |
| 3-4 hours | 14 |
| 8 hours | 6 |
| 9-10 hours | 5 |
| 6-7 hours | 2 |
| 3-5 hours | 1 |
| 60 hours | 1 |

What the figures do not tell you
Actual fuel use per hour, how hot a product becomes and where it may be placed are not stated. We pass questions like that on to the manufacturer rather than guess.
